Scientific research and industry working hand in hand. Join us for the HZWO panels
HZWO is a dynamic cluster bringing together research organizations and industrial partners from Central Europe.
The panel discussion and “Meet the Expert” session organized by the HZWO cluster support interactive dialogue between research institutions and industry. This format aims to highlight key research and development projects, stimulate cross-sector cooperation, and promote the implementation of hydrogen technologies across Europe.
Panel discussion: Science meets industry – research and development projects as an example of cooperation
10:00-10:50
Objective: To facilitate a strategic discussion on shaping effective cooperation between leading research organizations and the hydrogen industry. The panel will feature leading figures from institutes (e.g., Hydrogen Europe Research, Fraunhofer Institute, Technical University, Maximator), as well as industry partners and project initiators.
- Presentation of flagship research and development projects: Hy.CoMM (construction and mining machinery powered by clean hydrogen), Digital Twins, SusyMobil NoRoMa, and hydrogen-powered energy systems for mobile work equipment.
- Identification of barriers and best practices in technology transfer between science and industry and project implementation.
- Discussion of the role of standards in accelerating the development of hydrogen solutions.
Meeting with an expert
10:50-11:30
Open source innovation platforms, presentation by the Hydrogen Innovation Center
Objective: To enable direct technical exchange with leading researchers and developers of hydrogen technologies—fuel cells, electrolysers, and stationary storage systems—through small group and one-on-one sessions.
Main topics:
- Open test platforms for fuel cell and electrolyzer stacks and systems: providing broad access for industry and academia to functional platforms, supporting collaboration in knowledge transfer, and supporting innovation related to projects in a pre-competitive environment.
- Stationary hydrogen energy storage: promoting the use of hydrogen infrastructure — electrolysers, compressors, fuel cell systems, and advanced battery storage — to decarbonize industrial processes and stabilize European energy grids.
Electrolyzers
11:30-12:30
Objective: A brief overview of IMI and IMI VIVO, their products and services for the hydrogen market. Focus on IMI PEM electrolyzers, ranging from 1 MW to 5 MW, and from 10 MW to 100 MW, featuring a unique new design and new features for safety and flexibility. Case studies of the latest designs and applications will be presented.
Format: Short expert presentations, followed by interactive Q&A sessions and technical consultations.

HZwo is a dynamic cluster of research organizations and industrial partners from Central Europe, focused on the development of next-generation hydrogen technologies and solutions for the energy transition. As a leading knowledge center, HZwo's research activities aim to accelerate innovation, validate new technologies, and support European decarbonization goals.
The Hydrogen Innovation Center (HIC) in Chemnitz is being established as an industrial research, testing, and certification center within ITZ H2. Designed in collaboration with SMEs, automotive suppliers, industrial companies, and fuel cell research experts, it aims to combine scientific research with the transfer of groundbreaking hydrogen technologies and the creation of broad industrial value through the supply industry. Startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, automotive suppliers, and industrial companies from across Germany will have the opportunity to test and certify their innovations and develop new standards for the global market.
