PTPiREE Report: Nearly PLN 18 Billion for the Development of Poland’s Power Sector

Poland’s electricity sector is entering a new phase of transformation.

The figures illustrate the scale of preparations for these changes. In 2025, investment in the development of transmission and distribution networks reached nearly PLN 17.8 billion, while the total capacity of connected renewable energy sources exceeded 36 GW.

The PTPiREE report, prepared in cooperation with the sector’s largest operators, highlights the key role played by electricity networks in the energy transition. New renewable energy sources, energy storage facilities, electromobility infrastructure, and a growing number of devices powered by electricity are all being connected to the grid.

At the end of 2025, network operators served more than 19.4 million customers. The total length of electricity lines, including connections, exceeded one million kilometres, while the number of power substations surpassed 286,000. More than 142 TWh of electricity was delivered to final customers.

Our goal is not only to respond to the current needs of the sector, but also to create the conditions for its stable development in the future,” emphasised Maciej Mróz, President of the Management Board of PTPiREE.

Modernisation and Grid Development

The funds were allocated to connecting new customers and energy sources, modernising infrastructure, and increasing the capacity and reliability of electricity networks.

An important element of these efforts remains the expansion of underground cable networks. By the end of 2025, the share of cable lines in medium-voltage networks had increased to 32.7%, improving the infrastructure’s resilience to failures and disruptions.

Renewable Energy and Energy Storage on the Rise

The number of connected micro-installations exceeded 1.63 million, with a combined capacity of nearly 13.8 GW. Altogether, connected renewable energy sources accounted for more than 1.64 million installations, with a total capacity of almost 36.3 GW.

Energy storage is also playing an increasingly important role. By the end of 2025, more than 120,000 storage systems with a combined capacity of nearly 698 MW were operating alongside micro-installations. In the first half of the current year, their number had already increased to more than 149,000.

The Next Stage of the Energy Transition

The operators’ development plans for 2026–2031 предусматривают further expansion of infrastructure, particularly in areas related to renewable energy, energy storage, electromobility, and the connection of new customers.
