Nearly 5 Million Smart Energy Meters in Poland
Nearly 5 million smart energy meters will be installed in households and businesses across Poland thanks to support from NFOŚiGW. The approximately PLN 1 billion investment is expected to improve grid management, help consumers monitor their energy use, and prepare the market for integration with the CSIRE system.
The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) is supporting the modernisation of Poland’s energy grid. Thanks to the funding, nearly 5 million smart energy meters are set to be installed in households and businesses across the country. The investment is worth approximately PLN 1 billion and is financed through the Modernisation Fund.
Modern meters enable remote and accurate monitoring of energy consumption, allowing consumers to better control their bills and plan energy savings. The devices can also monitor the electricity produced and fed into the grid by owners of installations such as photovoltaic systems.
Smart metering is also important for grid operators. Access to up-to-date data allows them to detect failures more quickly, monitor grid performance, and respond more efficiently to problems with energy supply.
The investment is part of Poland’s broader energy transition. Data from the meters will be transmitted to the Central Energy Market Information System (CSIRE), helping to improve the functioning of the energy market.
According to current plans, by July 2031, all electricity consumers in Poland are expected to be equipped with remotely readable meters.
A Modern Energy Market
